SOASTA, Inc. today launched a new release of its CloudTest Platform that delivers complete functional test automation for continuous multi-touch, gesture-based mobile applications. The foundation of SOASTA’s release is TouchTest™ technology that provides precision in the capture and playback of all continuous touch gestures including pan, pinch, zoom and scroll on iPhones, iPads, iPods and Android mobile devices. SOASTA is also announcing the SOASTA “Private Device Cloud,” a low-cost way of using the devices you already own to test end user experience from real devices around the world. With this new release, the CloudTest Platform delivers a complete solution for performance and functional test automation of mobile apps across real, distributed mobile devices.
“We are extremely proud to introduce to the mobile app market the same level of revolutionary test innovation that we delivered to cloud testing in 2008,” said Tom Lounibos, SOASTA CEO. “The way that users interact with data and apps is rapidly changing. Multi-touch, gesture-based applications are adding voice interfaces, and ‘big data’ applications such as logistics, distribution, and media will soon have 3D navigation and hovering browser UIs. The ‘Minority Report’ user interface has arrived, and with it we must have a new test platform to validate the highest quality user experience. TouchTest and our new CloudTest Private Device Cloud will change the game for mobile developers and testers forever.”
The new release of CloudTest with TouchTest technology delivers affordable, accurate, and complete mobile app testing using real mobile devices. Traditional testing solutions have employed device emulators and optical recognition approaches that are not precise enough to test this generation of mobile apps. TouchTest captures the start and end points of each gesture, the journey between, and the speed with which the gesture is performed. It uniquely conducts testing from within the mobile app, replacing brittle optical recognition approaches and enabling validations based on variable values and internal app state changes. Distributed mobile devices are accessed via the IP address, eliminating the need for tethering or “jail breaking” and allowing mobile devices — anywhere — to be used in a test.
TouchTest will be offered as a feature enhancement for use by mobile developers and testers that are using CloudTest and CloudTest Lite, with the first testing device free of charge. SOASTA is also offering two new, affordable starter kits, CloudTest iOS Lab and CloudTest Android Lab, designed for mobile app functional testing teams.
SOASTA’s new Private Device Cloud enables enterprise companies to use their own mobile devices, including employees’ existing devices, in their own private test network. A SOASTA Private Device Cloud delivers full control to the testing team, including selecting devices, orchestrating the opt-in process, scheduling, alerting, and starting and stopping tests. Aggregated and correlated results are delivered back to the team in a single analytics dashboard. A SOASTA Private Device Cloud enables customers to affordably execute user experience testing on a much broader level than ever before.
“SOASTA’s new CloudTest release with TouchTest technology is truly revolutionary. There are no other solutions that address the market need for fast, precision mobile app testing,” said Mark Calomeni, Director, Software Platform Engineering, HighWire Press, Stanford University. “Functional testing of mobile apps has been difficult at best, forcing us to resort to manual testing in many cases, rather than use today’s solutions. This new offering will indeed help the industry deliver higher quality mobile apps to the market faster.”
