The EC2 in Virginia but sites like HootSuite have gone back online, while Reddit is still in read-only mode while they await a final fix to lingering problems with the restore. The Amazon Relational Database Service in the same N. Virginia location is in about the same situation as it needs Ec2 services itself.
From the AWS Service Health Dashboard:
“2:41 AM PDT We continue to make progress in restoring volumes but don’t yet have an estimated time of recovery for the remainder of the affected volumes. We will continue to update this status and provide a time frame when available.”
It’s probably not too soon to consider the overall impact and what it tells us about the delecate interdependency of the cloud computing ecosystem.
